With the first race meeting of the 2013 season scheduled for Donington Park and that being postponed due to heavy snowfall, the season kicked off at Brands Hatch, anxiously anticipated by Mansbridge Racing.
By waiting to know what was happening with Donington, we effectively mis-understanding the entry proceedures, leaving Shane an annoyed Reserve at this event.
Scrutineering was fine, the car declared safe and so Shane went out for Practise. Despite no testing at the circuit, the qualifying times were ok for our first time on track, with shane getting to know the car and circuit.
With all drivers attending the first race, Shane did not manage to get a grid place so frustratingly returned to the pits.
Race 2 was finally where Shane got to race for the first time. Unfortunately down to other drivers having misfortunes, but we'd happily take the grid. After some battles at the start and during the early part of the race, the middle section was fairly quiet and then Shane was overtaken for position whilst the leaders were coming round to lap the slower drivers.
What the event did show is that a racecar can be built on a very competative budget, but for future events the car either needed to run the later/faster engine like most other racers, or utilise the weight allowance available. Effectively we were running a heavier car with a slower engine!
Please watch the videos below, especially the MotorsTV coverage as Shane evens gets a mention!
Thanks go to out to all the family who helped at the event & the series sponsors we have.
