Rockingham Motor Speedway, the huge oval stadium with its infield circuit configuration was the location for rounds 9 & 10 of the MR2 championship. A spectacular circuit with great viewing areas and one of our favourite circuits. A few regular competitors were missing for these rounds, so picking up some valuable points could be possible.
Qualifying was good, the recent changes made to the car provided a solid turn in ability, with just the hint of rear end oversteer. As the session progressed the rears heated up and the back end got more loose, but a controllable loose at least. The session ended with our best qualifying to date, 12th for both races, smashing out target of a top 15 qualifying/race finish.
Race one, a poor start off the line and then battling for position round lap one meant some contact was inevitable, but managing to continue as a good race developed, until the last lap when a turn 2 lunge went wrong and shane couldnt catch the back & the car went round. A disastrous situation putting pay to a best finish of 11th or 12th...we ended the race 19th.
Race two was better, Shane kept out of trouble and had a race long batle with Nigel Ralphson, eventually finishing 10th...a career best and huge motivation for Shane & the team.
The target has now changed...top 5 is round the corner. To help get there, another upgrade being instigated, so we cant wait until next time.
Next up, Silverstone, Northamptonshire.
